Everyone says "the money is in the list", but how do you build a large responsive list$%: Remember the TIGER. With an opt-in mail list, the emails you send containing your promotional materials such as newsletters, catalogs and marketing media are more likely to get through. So what is this TIGER$%:

TIGER: Trust, Interest, Gain, Expertise, Recognition.

Trust: First of all you need to build trust with your potential customers. In this time of so much intrusive spam, getting an email address out of someone is becoming harder and harder. Yes we all know that you value your subscribers and would never be silly enough to sell or give away the contents of your list - but many do. Tell your potential subscribers why you want their email addresses and what you will be doing with it. Let them know that you will never sell their details and would like their permission to send them information, product releases and sales items. Most people understand that they will receive some kind of advertising but they do want information as well. Give them an unsubscribe link as well so that they trust that they can get off the list.

Interest: Be interesting on your web site and in your ezines or newsletters. People have visited you or signed up for information about a particular subject so make sure you let them have it. In this way our wont quickly lose your recent subscribers.

Gain: Sadly most people want something for nothing. Let your subscribers have an ebook on their chosen subject when they subscribe to your list. Give them gifts every so often and tell them about genuine good value items for sale.

Expertise: People love to get information about their interests from someone that they perceive is more skilled than they are. Build this on your web site by outlining what you have done in the past. Detail some interesting observations about the subject of your site. Point out what else you have done and where else you can be found in the business world or the market you are working in.


Recognition: Make sure that you business and/or web site can be recognized by good branding and naming. Ensure that your emails and ezines always quote where the subscriber signed on and quote your web site address. Keep the format of the ezine the same each time as well. In this way your subscribers will look forward to it and keep their fingers away from that spam or unsubscribe link.
